How can we get support when NIFDI staff are not on site?
NIFDI provides ongoing remote support between on-site visits. This may include virtual meetings, data review, coaching, and support by phone or email. Remote classroom observations and virtual coaching are also available.
What does on-site implementation support look like?
NIFDI provides hands-on support tailored to the needs of each school or district. Depending on the level of support selected, NIFDI consultants may visit regularly to observe instruction, provide feedback and coaching, review student performance, and help school leaders address implementation needs.
The length and frequency of support vary based on the size, goals, and needs of each school or district.
What training do teachers receive?
NIFDI provides initial training to prepare teachers to begin using Direct Instruction effectively. Training is hands-on and focused on building the skills teachers need to successfully deliver their programs.
Ongoing training and coaching continue throughout implementation and are tailored to teacher needs based on classroom observations and student performance.
How are students placed into Direct Instruction programs?
NIFDI helps schools use each program’s assessment data to determine the appropriate Direct Instruction programs and instructional groups for students. NIFDI can also provide guidance on assessment, grouping, scheduling, and selecting the appropriate instructional materials.
What role do school staff play in implementation?
Successful implementation requires the active involvement of the entire school team. Teachers and instructional staff participate in training, coaching, and ongoing support. School and district leaders play an important role in monitoring implementation, supporting staff, and using student data to guide decisions.
Can multiple schools or districts work together?
Yes. NIFDI can work with groups of schools or districts implementing Direct Instruction at the same time. Sharing training and other support can provide a more efficient and cost-effective approach.
What implementation support options are available?
NIFDI offers several levels of implementation support, allowing schools and districts to select services based on their goals, resources, and needs.
Can NIFDI provide presentations for school boards, families, or other stakeholders?
Yes. NIFDI consultants can provide presentations and answer questions for school boards, families, curriculum committees, and other stakeholders. Advance scheduling is required.
Does NIFDI support decrease over time?
Yes. The goal of implementation support is to build the knowledge and skills within your school or district to sustain Direct Instruction successfully. As staff develop greater expertise and confidence, NIFDI support can be adjusted or reduced.
NIFDI can also provide training for school- and district-based coaches to help build long-term internal capacity.
