Teaching English as a second language with DI

Glumelli, K.; Moore, J.
Abstract:
This study examined the effect of DISTAR Language on the academic achievement of English as a Second Language kindergarten students. A similar group of students who received instruction with a teacher developed language program served as the control group. All students were administered the Macquarie University Special Education Basic Language Concepts Screening Tests (MUSEC) for pre- and posttest measures. Results indicate that both groups of students demonstrated gains in concept development. However, students in the DISTAR group demonstrated superior concept learning outcomes in comparison to students in the control group.
