SUMMARY:What Makes Spelling Instruction Effective? Lessons from Five Decades of Research and Real-World Implementation
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will explore the key features of effective spelling instruction and draw on findings from a comprehensive meta-analysis of spelling interventions. Participants will see how these research-supported practices appear within structured programs such as Spelling Mastery and learn about the results of a recent study in which parents implemented the program with their children. The session will connect research with practice while highlighting practical lessons about explicit instruction\, program implementation\, and supporting spelling development across school and home settings. \nTime will allow for a short Q&A after the presentation. \nRegistration closes September 23 @ 8:00 am PT \n \nAccess information will be sent the day before the webinar. If you do not receive your access information by Noon PST the day before the webinar\, reach out to info@nifdi.org.

SUMMARY:Corrective Reading Decoding 2027 Levels B1 and B2 Remote Training
DESCRIPTION:Join us on October 9 for a remote training on the new Corrective Reading 2027 Decoding Levels B1 and B2. Here is a link to the placement test. \nStudents who place into Decoding B1 or B2 have inconsistent reading skills and often guess at words rather than apply decoding strategies that will lead to the accurate reading of words. \nCorrective Reading Decoding B1 refines word-attack skills by teaching sounds and sound combinations\, introducing new vocabulary\, and promoting word discrimination. There is a strong emphasis on fluency-building and comprehension with daily reading of decodable connected text. \nCorrective Reading Decoding B2 continues the instructional sequence of Level B1 with student practice in word-attack and spelling\, vocabulary development\, and daily practice of decodable connected text. Practice for rate and accuracy\, and charting of daily fluency progress are features that help students recognize their progress and increase their motivation. \nRegistration closes October 1st @ Noon PT \n \nAdditional Information\n\nFor this training\, materials will need to be mailed to participants. \nAccess information for remote trainings will be sent the day before the training. If you do not receive your access information by Noon PST the day before the training\, reach out to info@nifdi.org. \nPayment Policy: Full payment or a Purchase Order must be received by Thursday\, October 1st to allow time for materials to be shipped. \nCancellation Policy: A full refund will be issued if our office receives a written request by October 1\, 2026\, or if NIFDI has to cancel the event. Cancellations after that date\, or after materials have shipped\, will not be refunded; however\, we do allow substitutions. A written request must be received in our office before any refunds will be processed.

SUMMARY:Spelling Mastery A & B; Grades 1-2 Remote Training
DESCRIPTION:Spelling Mastery is a six-level Direct Instruction series that teaches students dependable spelling skills by blending three approaches: the phonemic\, whole-word\, and morphemic. Each approach has advantages and possible disadvantages. Spelling Mastery is designed to maximize the advantages of each approach and minimize the disadvantages. \nThe whole word approach focuses on memorization. Spelling Mastery does not use memorization for words that contain predictable phonemic elements\, but reserves memorization for words that have irregular letter-sound relationships (i.e feud\, break\, gone). Prompts are used to make the initial learning easier\, and systematic practice is provided to facilitate retention. \nThe phonemic approach is used for letter-sound correspondences that are predictable. For example\, the sound /ar/ is highly consistent. In about 95 percent of the words in which the sound /ar/ is said\, the sound is spelled with the letters a-r. The authors conducted a careful analysis of phoneme-grapheme relationships\, and the generalizable relationships are systematically introduced and practiced. \nThe morphemic approach is used to combine roots\, bases\, prefixes\, and suffixes into words. The morphemic approach used is highly similar to that used in Spelling Through Morphographs. Students combine morphographs to write words and do exercises in which they indicate the morphographs in words. The use of morphographs to determine word meanings gradually increases as students progress through the levels. \nRegistration closes January 12th @ Noon PT \n \nAdditional Information\n\nFor this training\, participants will need to print materials\, preferably in color\, before the training begins.  \nAccess information for remote trainings will be sent the day before the training. If you do not receive your access information by Noon PST the day before the training\, reach out to info@nifdi.org. \n\nCancellation Policy: A full refund will be issued if our office receives a written request by January 7\, 2027\, or if NIFDI has to cancel the event. Cancellations after that date will not be refunded; however\, we do allow substitutions. A written request must be received in our office before any refunds will be processed. \nPayment Policy: Full payment or a purchase order must be received by January 11\, 2027\, to hold your spot.
