Chapter 1 clinical and guidance program 1988-89: Evaluation section report

Abstract:
This study examines the effect of the 1988-1989 Clinical and Guidance program in New York City on the academic achievement and behavior of 5,707 remedial students. Students in the program received instruction with the Corrective Reading and Corrective Mathematics programs. More than 94 percent of the students were in grades kindergarten through eight with the remaining students in grades nine to twelve. Results indicate that in general, with three exceptions, students in all programs and grades demonstrated statistically significant mean gains from pretest to posttest on standardized and program developed tests. Student behavior in all grades was tracked by teachers using the Behavior Checklist and results indicate statistically significant mean gains in positive behavior in all grades.
