Implementing Corrective Reading: Coaching issues

Abstract:
This study examined the teacher perceptions of Direct Instruction following a year of using the Corrective Reading program in Valdosta Middle School. For the first year of implementation, external coaches were used to ensure fidelity of program delivery; teachers served as coaches for the second year of implementation. Survey results indicated that teachers supported the use of the program, found the coaching feedback useful, and utilized components of DI in their other classes. Data gained from the SAT9 provided preliminary support for the effectiveness of Corrective Reading in increasing reading achievement of the lowest achieving quartile.
