The effectiveness of the Reading Mastery Reading program when teaching learning support students how to read

This study examined the effect of Reading Mastery (RM) on the reading achievement of three fourth grade students with learning disabilities over a period of eight weeks. Curriculum based measures were administered for pre- and posttest measures. Students were also administered a survey on their attitudes towards RM and how effective they thought it was. Results indicated that all students exceeded the reading fluency criteria prescribed by the program and all three met the accuracy criteria. Two students met the criteria for reading comprehension with the third student scoring just below criteria. Two students demonstrated gains in reading sight words, while the third demonstrated no growth. Results from the student survey indicated that all students believed they were better readers after the conclusion of the intervention.
