Tulsa Students Score Record Highs in Reading

This study examined the effect of Reading Mastery (RM) on the reading achievement of kindergarten and elementary students in five elementary schools. In response to being placed on the state’s improvement list and having the lowest scores in the district, five elementary schools implemented RM in grades K-3 in spring, 2004. Following the implementation of RM, all schools demonstrated strong improvement from 2005 to 2007 on the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Test (OCCT). By 2006, all students in one school scored satisfactory or advanced in reading on the OCCT. Students at another school accomplished the same achievement one year later.
