Reliability of observations done by cooperating teacher supervisors in a Direct Instruction practicum

Marchand-Martella, N.; Lignugaris-Kraft, B
Abstract:
This study assessed the interobserver reliability of a Direct Instruction observation instrument designed to evaluate pre-service teachers’ DI skills. Pre-service teachers instructed elementary students with Reading Mastery and/or Corrective Mathematics and were supervised by licensed teachers in their classrooms. A university coordinator served as the reliability observer. Results indicate that interobserver agreement was generally high, as measured by total agreement, agreement across observation categories, and agreement on frequency of pre-service teacher behavior.
