Abstract:
This study examined the Direct Instruction teaching behaviors that we most challenging to generalize across settings and time. After completing DI training at a summer conference, teachers were observed in their classroom. Teachers were trained in Reading Mastery, Spelling Mastery, DISTAR Arithmetic, DISTAR Language, Reasoning and Writing, Corrective Reading, Corrective Mathematics, or Corrective Spelling. Results indicate that the instructional behaviors that teachers had the most difficulty with when transferring skills to their classrooms included: signaling, pacing, firming, error correction, and reinforcement of correct responding.
