A field trial of Mastering Fractions videodisc program

Carter, S.; Rice, J.; Ragan, S.
Abstract:
This study examined the effect of the videodisc program, Mastering Fractions, on fifth grade students’ ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions. Mastering Fractions was implemented in one classroom for three months. Curriculum based tests were administered for pre- and posttest measures. Results indicate that approximately 90% of the students mastered all of the skills taught. The three students who did not reach mastery were either absent to much of the time that practical review was impossible within the project time period, or had learning disabilities. The student with a learning disability made significant progress and mastered approximately 75% of the skills presented. (Copyright © 2011, National Institute for Direct Instruction (NIFDI).
